Dust off your flip flops. Languid balmy summer days are here. Holidays are just around the corner.
Sun, salt and chlorine can ruin your hair colour and condition making it parched and frizzy. Suyo give their top tips for cosseting your tresses on holiday.
Pre-holiday hair pampering
Give your locks some serious TLC with deep conditioning treatments at home so it’s healthy and moisturised before you board that plane for faraway sun-kissed beaches. I like L’anza’s Keratin Healing Oil Intensive Hair Masque – a concentrated therapy to replenish moisture and restore elasticity.
Remember to book your post holiday salon appointment well before you leave to ensure any re-growth or frizzy ends can be dealt with as soon as you’re back.
Chlorine discolours hair
Chlorine is your hair’s worst enemy. It damages and discolours, especially blonde hair which can develop an unattractive greenish tint.
Ideally wash your hair immediately after swimming using a shampoo specifically designed to remove chlorine to avoid discolouration and damage. If you can’t immediately shampoo your hair then thoroughly rinse it with fresh clean water.
UV damage leaves hair brittle and faded
You wouldn’t sunbathe without protection and the same goes for your hair and scalp. Use a sun product with a high SPF such as Daily UV Protector from the L’anza Swim and Sun collection. Spray it on your hair for protection against harsh pool chemicals and seawater, as well as the sunlight. Pay particular attention to your parting as your scalp is very exposed here.
If your hair is coloured then a hat is your best friend as colour fades quickly in strong sun.
After sun
Wash hair again in the evening to remove the build up of product from the day and, if you’ve time, use a deep conditioning treatment to help sun-stressed tresses. Again L’anza’s Keratin Healing Oil Intensive Hair Masque would be my choice for most hair types but do ask your Suyo stylist for a personal prescription for your hair.
Holiday hair styling
The fashion ponytail is a major look on the catwalks for 2014 and translates beautifully onto the beach. Keep it super slick and tied low on the nape of your neck for a bang-on trend effortless look which works on the beach, sightseeing or partying at night. Just pop a selection of pretty accessories into your case when packing.
If frizz is a problem in humid hot weather try applying a smoothing product before drying your hair to help calm frizz and flyaway ends.
If sleek and chic isn’t your look try adding texture and waves for a tousled for a care-free look. Soft waves are flattering and fashion-forward on ombre hair. Just add some setting spray to damp hair then twist sections of hair around your finger as it dries naturally.
Alternatively, create texture and loose waves by plaiting two large braids on slightly damp hair before bed.
Please do ask your stylist for help and advice. We always delighted to see you so just pop into the salon when you’re grabbing those last minute holiday essentials on Harborne High Street.
